My wife bought me a pair of houseshoes from Pennys. They went to pieces in a matter of weeks. I bought a pair of houseshoes from Wal-Mart, that lasted longer.

I'm surprised they have 140 stores left. Odd that they would have any expectations about Millennials spending money in their stores. Millennials really don't have any money.
I still think JCP can be saved, I own the stock so I am biased. Kmart is Dead, Sears could have been saved, but they need a DRASTIC CHANGE... No sears is dead also..
Possibly due to slow-to-no change in their model to align their products/prices/services with evolving consumer wants/needs. If you snooze, you lose.
I hope the Bismarck store won't be affected by this. I get my jeans and shorts from there because they're high quality made. Is there a list somewhere where I can find out?
We lost JCPenny in the next town. Have to drive a lot further if I want to shop at a Penny's or go online. Now we are losing K-Mart in our town. It doesn't make sense since the only place to shop is now Walmart. In the meantime the town that is... — read more
My JCPenney once existed in a mall and I went there a lot. They they left it and opened a store at some newer outdoor strip center. I've been there exactly two times. I still prefer the mall but now this one is a joke. Nothing to do there now but eat... — read more
Everyone overlooks the No. 1 retailer: QVC. Last year's junk at next year's prices. Nice shipping and handling charges support low cost junk profits.
JC Penney has been going downhill for years. There's hardly ever a lot of people in their stores and they never have Really good sales. They have 5-7% off sales and at the most 15% off once in a while.
So what about going back to what works? Bring back the Christmas Catalogue and put things in the store your customers & your shoppers are looking for! JCP cannot dictate to it's customers what they them to buy! The reasons I came into the store was...

So sad that JC Penney(along with Kmart and Sears) are dying. It's been a year since the Morristown,TN Penney store closed, which was replaced by D–k's Sporting Goods. But, on the flip side, this is probably move to keep them in the black and move... — read more
There is a big evolution going on that won't simply end with the death of stores like JC Penney. It seems like there will always need to be a place to go look at the object. Touch it, see it, hear it, try it on. I am a big Amazon shopper, but I... — read more
I like buying from Amazon. I never enjoyed shopping. Going to the mall feels like a chore. When I do go to the mall I am in and out. Which is why I like buying online. I click on what I want, and in two days, it's in an Amazon locker. I can even get... — read more
For all of you with short memories, this has nothing to do with politics. Trump didn't cause this, Obama didn't cause this and Bush didn't cause this. It also didn't have as much to do with the internet as many claim. By the late 1970s, the... — read more
Well, the average size an American woman wears is a 16. That's average. Stores like Pennys stock sizes 16 and lower, most clothes in the 4-8 range, and wonder why they have to close stores. I don't even go to brick and mortar stores to buy clothes... — read more

The companies that can effectively get their products to consumers for the best value survive, and those than cannot go away. How many businesses failed decades ago because of these huge retailers? It's how the economy and society functions. Nothing... — read more
JCP, you are dying, as are many department stores. Perhaps you should try something radical. Start selling an Ivanka clothing line. Start selling Trump books, socks and tee shirts. Set up a patriot section selling American Flags, as well as jigsaw... — read more
It's not just mall stores that will be closing en masse, it's a lot of brick and mortar stores as well. Retail jobs will be decimated, and tax revenue for communities will be as well. The Internet has changed so many facets of our lives, for better... — read more

Everyone is quick to claim this is driven by online shopping but the core of what JCP (and sears) sells are not really online items. Clothing, bath & housewares are likely not big online sales areas. Some of these items that are online are still... — read more
I agree that Amazon has dominated the retail market. But, as it grows, it becomes a bigger den of c-appy merchandise. Where, in the past, I rarely needed to return things, I find that I have a lot of returns now. The products from Amazon's... — read more
Which means JC Penney, Sears, K-Mart, BestBuy, Macys, and other traditional retailers had better get their online operations up-to-speed – and fast – before they completely go down the toilet
It's a shame but Sears and Kmart along with JCPenney are dead men walking.
love Wally World because i can buy American-made goods by shopping selectively, unlike others
Hope it's not the one near me. Hate shopping on line. I like to see what I'm buying in person. Hate Walmart

I enjoy shopping online as much as the next person. But, there is going to be a day where we can not actually go to a store and touch and/or feel something. I think we're going to miss this more than we realize.
