While we have absolutely no information on why D–k's Sporting Goods is closing on January 3rd I think that we can make an educated guess.
Money stopped coming in. That's my guess. Maybe I'm right. Maybe I'm wrong.
The Kingsport Pavillion store will be long gone before we find out, however.
